Fall River is the closest thing to home turf outside New Bedford: the same granite mills, the same triple-deckers, the same problem of where you put a container on a street where nobody has a driveway. We have been working these hills long enough to know which blocks need a smaller box.

An old mill city built on steep ground above the Taunton River, with granite textile mills, dense multi-family housing and a strong Portuguese community that has kept the neighborhoods intact. The Flint, Corky Row and Maplewood are packed with three-deckers built before 1920, most with no off-street parking and stairs that make everything harder to carry. The Highlands have larger Victorians. Mill buildings keep getting converted, which produces genuinely large demolition loads. Hills mean placement has to account for a container wanting to roll.
Triple-decker work drives everything: roof tear-offs, full apartment gut jobs, porch and stair rebuilds, and cleanouts between tenants. Mill conversions and commercial demolition throw off brick, timber and metal in quantity, all of which has to be separated under state bans. Victorians in the Highlands give up plaster, lath and old trim by the ton. Winter brings frozen pipe damage and the drywall and flooring that follows it.

Route 140 south to I-195 west and off at whichever exit suits the neighborhood, twenty-five minutes on a normal morning. Downtown and the mill district come off the Braga Bridge ramps. For the Flint and the east side we use Pleasant Street and Plymouth Avenue. On the steeper streets we plan the approach uphill so the truck is never reversing down a grade with a loaded box.

Often that is the only option, and Fall River treats street placement as something the city has to authorize before it happens. Get that squared away first and we will work to whatever the approval says. Practically, we will bring the smallest box that does the job, set it tight to the curb and keep it clear of hydrants, corners and bus stops.
Carefully and always with the load in mind. We approach uphill wherever possible so the truck is not reversing down a grade with weight behind it, we chock the container once it is set, and on the sharpest blocks we will use a shorter box because it sits more stably. If a spot genuinely is not safe we will say so and find another one nearby.
One floor of a typical three-decker taken back to studs runs a 20 yard, maybe a bit more if the ceilings are plaster. Plaster and lath is the deciding factor, because it hits the weight limit at about a third of the volume. Two or three units at once and we would rather leave a 20 yard and swap it than send a 30 that cannot legally be hauled full.
A snow emergency clears the streets for plows, and a container sitting at the curb becomes an obstruction. If a storm is coming and your box is on a street, call us and we will pull it early or move it onto private ground where one is available. Planning a curbside job for January is possible, but we build the forecast into the schedule rather than hope.
