Rural and agricultural, and the town has resisted becoming anything else. Lots are large, houses sit back from the road on gravel or dirt drives, and nearly everything is on septic and well. The housing mix runs from colonial-era farmhouses through 1970s ranches to newer colonials on subdivided land. Barns, equipment sheds and detached garages are part of most properties. Along the Taunton River and near Assonet Neck there is low ground and wetland to work around, and the river road narrows in places where a truck needs to be deliberate.
Outbuilding demolition and farm cleanouts make up a large share of it, with old board, metal roofing and decades of stored equipment coming out of barns that have outlived their use. House renovations here tend to be thorough rather than cosmetic, since the buildings are old and the work goes back to the framing. Septic upgrades, deck rebuilds and storm damage round it out. Getting to Berkley
North on Route 140 toward Taunton, then south on Route 24 and off at the Berkley exit is our usual line, or up Route 24 from I-195 if a truck is already west. Around forty minutes. Once we are in town the roads are narrow and the drives are long, so the last five minutes take as much planning as the first thirty-five. We ask about surface and turnaround every time.

Do I need permission to put a dumpster on my own land in Berkley?
For a container on your own driveway or field, generally no permission is involved, which is one advantage of a town like this. Anything sitting in the public way is a different matter and would need to go through the town first. Given the size of most Berkley properties, we can nearly always find a placement on your own ground and skip the question entirely.
Some Berkley roads and the bridge are narrow. Is that an access issue?
Rarely a blocking one, but it shapes the route. Our trucks stick to the main roads and take the wider approaches where the river roads pinch. The more common obstacle is your own drive: soft dirt, a tight gate opening or a low branch canopy. If you can describe the entrance and the surface when you call, we will pick the right truck and the right approach.
What comes out of a typical farm outbuilding teardown?
More material than the building looks like it holds. Weathered board, roofing, old fencing, and whatever has been stored inside for thirty years. Metal roofing and scrap iron come out first because metal is banned from disposal and worth recycling. Clean wood goes separately too. A 30 yard with a swap or two is the usual arrangement, left on site for as long as the work takes.
Can a container sit near a septic field or a well without causing damage?
Not on the leach field, no. A loaded roll-off is heavy enough to crush distribution lines under a field, and that is a repair nobody wants. We ask where the tank, the field and the well head are before we place, and we set the box on the driveway or firm ground away from all three. If you are not sure where the field runs, the driveway is the safe answer.
